The ascent of Mont Blanc via the Gouter Route and the Bosses Ridge is the most popular route up the mountain, but a big and strenuous climb nevertheless.
AD | 1000 m | 8-10 hrs |
It takes a full day to climb up to the Gouter Hut from the end of the railway above Les Houches, so you need to be prepared for two big days rather than just one. Climbing through the night, the lower section up the Dome du Gouter holds no great difficulties, but soon after the emergency Vallot Hut at 4350m, the route becomes steeper and narrower. This upper section is known as the Bosses Ridge and can often be very cold, as it’s both high and frequently exposed to the wind. When finally reaching the summit the views are truly amazing, but it’s still a very long way back down to the valley!
